ABOUT ME:
JASMINE LOREN JONES

As a valedictorian of the class of 2023 at Thompson High School, I am enrolled in AP classes, heavily involved in extracurricular activities on campus, and a senior intern for the THS TV and Film Academy. In addition to my many responsibilities, I am also a senior staff member of the Thompson High School TV (THS TV) production and work part-time as camp counselor and a freelance videographer for Alabama Runners MileSplit AL.

Before entering high school, I knew I wanted to be in front of the camera. During my freshman year, I joined the TV and Film Academy and later was promoted to joining the THS TV staff. THS TV is a group of students who produce live broadcasts each week, compete in broadcast and journalism competitions and work various events at school and in the community. With this being my third year part of the staff I spend most of my time working as an anchor, reporter, and social media director. From speaking with news industry professionals such as Eunice Elliott, James Spann and interacting with other industry professionals, collectively, this program has increased my interest in the journalism field. Networking with industry professionals has allowed me to jump start my career by obtaining a job as a freelancer for Alabama Runners MileSplit AL.

With my involvement in the TV and Film Academy, I have worked collaboratively with Thompson High School Athletics Department and was able to report during athletic events. My experience has led me to create my own sports media account on Instagram. This Instagram account has allowed me to highlight various THS teams, interview potential D1athletes, and conduct sideline and courtside reporting. Throughout my high school career, highlighted experiences include: exploring the role of a public address announcer for the basketball team, winning multiple awards, and finding my passion in broadcast journalism.

On THS TV, I spend most of the fall semester directing the pregame show for Warrior Nation Network and working on the sidelines as a reporter, videographer, and photographer. Additionally, I also compete in the Alabama Scholastic Press Association (ASPA) competition and SkillsUSA. I have won multiple awards including the following (to name a few): 1st Place Newscast Anchor in the Timed Competition for two years in a row at ASPA, 2nd Place Broadcast Sports Story/Reporting for two years in a row at ASPA, 3rd Place Broadcast News Story/Reporting for two years in a row at ASPA, and 1st Place in the Broadcast News Production at SkillsUSA. Being in the TV and Film Academy has also given me the opportunity to get certified in Adobe Premiere Pro and now continuing my progress on my certifications in Adobe Photoshop and After Effects.

Although I consider being on THS TV "my job", my real job is working as a counselor at my old elementary school, Meadow View Elementary School (MVES). I have been working there for about two years now and really take pride in being able to make a difference and an impact in kids' lives. From going to their softball games to running around on the playground, I can say this job is always filled with fun, laughter, hard work, and the best kids in the world. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, modeling, and competing in pageants.
Currently, I am a model for Glitz and Gowns,a pageant and prom boutique located in Alabaster. In addition to modeling for Glitz and Gowns, I have modeled in both Birmingham Fashion Week for Heidi Elnora's 15th Anniversary Show and New York Fashion Week through The Model Experience. I really enjoy being able to be in front of a camera in a different light. Along with me modeling, I serve as Miss Thompson High School and Miss Cityfest. With my titles, my hope is to inspire young girls to be confident, brave, bold, and kind. I enjoy using my platform to be a role model and encourage girls to chase their dreams and strive to be different.

After graduation, I plan on attending a four year college/university, where I will double major in broadcast journalism and sports marketing and double minor in graphic design and political science.
